Western and Eastwood

Located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood immediately adjacent to the Brown Line elevated tracks and across the street from the Western Brown Line Station, Western and Eastwood combines the renovation of an existing 4-story structure with a new 6-story building to completely fill its transit served urban site. When completed, the project will contain 74 dwelling units including three live-work units, 4000sf of retail at the corner, parking for 10 cars along the alley, and an amenity filled rooftop with deck. Integrating the existing concrete structure with the new building is challenging in both its planning and its exterior design. The new elevator core and stairs are located in the new structure to simplify construction and the connection between old and new. A new façade of brick, stone, and recessed cement panels, clad both the old building and new. Strategically placed recessed bays provide for a variety of scales along the façade and allow the new and old buildings to work seamlessly together. Scheduled to start construction in 2024, this design was met with a warm reception from the local community groups.
